Devil Rays

2008 Practice Schedule

Spring Schedule Beginning May 19th- June 12 (Mon-Fri)

5:00 pm-5:45 pm (8 and Under) Bronze

5:45 pm-6:45 pm – (9 and 10) Silver

6:45 pm-8:00 pm – (11 and Up) Gold

Summer Schedule Beginning June 15th ( Monday through Friday)

(I want to emphasize that the groups will be divided according to skill level as opposed to age. This makes for easier practice set up and allows us as coaches, to focus on developmental levels as opposed to putting kids in groups based on their age. With that in mind, the goal will be to eliminate the large age groups (11-12, 9-10) and place the kids in groups that will meet their skill level while also allowing them to push themselves and compete with kids that may be older than them. There is always the opportunity to move up from one group to another with the suggestion of a coach.)

7:30- 9:30 am Gold Group (Advanced/Endurance Program)

·    Focus on Endurance and Competitive Training

·    Lanes will be divided accordingly to allow for tiered practices

·    11 and Up will become a part of this program, a change from last year...see below.

·    Must know how to do all stroke turns, would be considered graduates of the Silver group. Are able to swim more than 6 lengths as a time.

·    Must have permission from the head coach to participate in this group.

9:30 am- 10:30 am Silver Group

·    For children who have mastered the four strokes, and are able to swim more than

2 lengths at a time. Have a good understanding of how to do starts and flip turns.

·    Will most likely be the largest group, which is no change from previous years. However, by eliminating the age division, we will hopefully eliminate the children who are older beginners and place them in the bronze group making practice a faster paced, less chaotic session.

10:30 am-11:15 am Bronze Group

·    Beginners, and for children who struggle to make more than 2 lengths at a time. Will focus more on developing the four strokes, flip turns, starts and endurance and strength building in the pool.

Saturdays (Beginning on May 24th 10-11:30)

§ 10:00 am-11:30 am (All Age Groups)

§ 1 hr- Swimming

§ ½ hr- Activity

§ Opportunity for older swimmer to get to know younger swimmers

A New program at GIGCC this summer!!!!  If you have young children who are interested in learning water safety and building their strength in the water this is the perfect group for them!  This group is open to children of any age the only requirement is that they MUST BE ABLE to swim across the 12 ft. diving well UNASSISTED.  Children will have to opportunity to enhance their skills as well as have a first hand experience of what the GIGCC Devil Ray swim team is all about. This program lasts one month and includes a specially designed Mini Ray t-shirt, and the opportunity to participate in the last home MICSA swim meet of the season.  I encourage you to sign up your children for this program, as it will be a great learning experience and more importantly a fun activity to keep them involved with other children during the summer months.

If your child may not be at this level of swimming, I encourage you to review the information below regarding small group, and private swim lessons.  We will also be offering a Parent-Tot program this summer, which is a great introduction to the water for your young children.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at whitney@gigcc.com. You may sign up for both of the programs listed below by printing off the signup sheet, or stopping by the front desk at the club.
